Wednesdays Are Now Do-A-Good-Deed Day

Do-A-Good-Deed Day is to honor my mom who does great deeds every day of her life. For instance, she has put up with my smart ass for 23 years, even when I told her I was engaged at seventeen. (She has also put up with my two brothers and my sister. This alone should get her an award for tolerance.) But I really want to talk about is her day-to-day job. She runs Central Virginia Horse Rescue and it is almost her whole life.

What she does is she saves horses from being auctioned to slaughter houses. You might be asking how this is accomplished. She buys them and brings them home to the rescue. Then they are examined and treated by a vet. Believe it or not this too costs money. And after all of this, she feeds them and takes care of them and trains them (if they aren’t already trained) until the day someone decides to take them home. So today I’m going to ask you to help her however you can. Whether it’s donating $5 on paypal or looking into adopting a horse, everything is appreciated.

And if you can’t specifically help with CVHR, look locally to see if there are any dog, horse, or any kind of rescues that need your help.

Make sure you check out CVHR’s website.

And here’s one of the horses that is available for adoption.

Cheyenne is an 18 year old Arabian. She’s 14.3 hands. Please click on her picture to see more about her if you’re interested.

Breaking News!

My internet is connected at the new house! Which means…

The Blog is back! I’m going to do Monday’s post. And if you give me just a few minutes, I’m going to try something new out for Wednesday.

I have had a good, but rough weekend. We finally have all of our furniture here, but in the process I had my face smashed by a dresser, my leg cut, & a weird bruise on my hand.
Good news is my husband and I didn’t have one argument. That’s a huge deal as most couples who have moved together will know. Last time we moved he got angry with me and dropped a mattress down 3 flights of stairs and dragged a really nice armoire up a flight of concrete stairs.

As you can see, I’m so tired that I’m rambling. On top of that, I’m not even going to check my grammar.

Another Short One

I officially have ten followers AND none of them are my mother!

So I want to thank each of you for subscribing and would love to hear from you. I would also like to say, Mom, get on your game! Your usually my first subscriber and my first comment. Silly woman.

Alright, I suppose that’s enough procrastination. Back to packing I go.

A Quick Question

I’m busy moving this weekend, but hopefully it’ll only take a weekend. So I’ll definitely have a post by Tuesday. But what I want and need to know is: should I limit how many links I use in a particular post? What I’m basically asking is do you want a Top Ten of the week or just all of the posts I thought were good?

Also, do you have any blogs on writing/reading, photos, DIY/Crafting, or food that you think I should know about? Please share your thoughts with me so when I come back Sunday night I have an idea on how to improve this blog.

Busy Week

The Good News: My husband and I are finally moving into our new house! We’ve been on the list for around 7 months now and we’ve been paying month-to-month rent for 5 of those. We couldn’t sign a new lease because we didn’t know if we’d be stuck here for 3 months  or 6 or a whole year. We sign for our keys on Thursday!

The Bad News: As a result of this move, the blog has and will continue to take a back seat until we are move and completely situated. Fear not, I have not given up on this blog. I just had to prioritize things.

In the mean time, check out Terrible Minds and Sorted Food. I love just about everything they post ^.^

Two Weeks of Food Jan 4-18

I know I should only post things from this past week, but since I had all the entries for last week chosen before my marathon of a cold hit I think it would only be appropriate to post it all. So this may be longer than expected.

This Sunday is my dad’s birthday. Even though he’ll never read this (because he never reads any blogs), I wanted to honor him with a favorite recipe if I could. I couldn’t find a recently posted recipe for German Chocolate Cake, which is his all time favorite, but I did find a Lemon Meringue tart recipe which is a close second. My Dad has always loved lemons; sometimes he even likes them raw.

From here on out I’m going to separate these a bit…

News from the Cooking World

Here are some news pieces that caught my eye ^.^

First is an article about a company in Long Island called A Taste of Long Island. It provides entrepreneurs with an industrial kitchen that they can rent for 4 hour shifts and food market in which to sell their product. All in all, I thought it was just a really nifty idea.

A Short — very short, in fact — article on how to brown ground/minced meat to get the most out of your recipes.

This is not really news, but more a random quiz out there for all foodie football fans!

Next Up: Food I was Dying to Cook While Sick
These are all the food items I wanted to get up and cook in the last week and a half, but couldn’t.

First and foremost, Cinnamon Rolls. I love cinnamon. I love cinnamon rolls. I am not a huge fan of the sugar icing dumped all over the top of cinnamon rolls. Best solution? Make them myself. This recipe looks absolutely delicious.

That's so yummy . com

In short order, here are the rest…

Snicker-Doodles made with Snickers bars.

Lemon Shrimp Scampi

How to make a perfect Omelet

This is a cocktail called the Westward. I think it sounds just as good without the alcohol.

Italian Cenci, which looks a little like funnel cake bites to me.

Pesto is one of my favorite things in the world. Especially when my momma makes fresh from her garden, but this sounds like a good alternative to basil and pine nuts.

I absolutely love this idea…it’s like pretzel chicken nuggets with the best dipping sauce ever!

Honey butter is amazing, but I’ve never tried it with hot sauce or chives in it. Seems like it’d be worth a shot

It’s been awhile since I’ve had some good pork chops, and I’ve never tried it with balsamic cherries before.

Sick or healthy, I’m always a fan of bacon. Always.

Artisan Bacon-Cheese Bread

Bacon Caramel Tart…it’s got bacon & Caramel with a little bit of salt. This sounds too good to be true.

Finally: Vegetarian Recipes

Note: Vegetarian, NOT Vegan. There may be eggs &/or dairy products in these recipes.

Squash & Kale Quesadillas

Morrocan Carrot & Chickpea Salad

Garlic Butter Sweet Potato Fries & Feta Dip

Quinoa Pancakes

Lentil Cakes with Poached Eggs

I’m pretty sure this is Vegan. Buffalo Mozzarella

Butternut Squash Cannelloni with Sage Sauce

Sweet Potato Chips made in the microwave

Well, that’s it for this week. Sorry I wasn’t as chatty as I normally am, but I’m still getting over my cold. Maybe some cinnamon bus would help…
